Do I really need a commercial use license?
If you plan on selling designs that you create using someone else’s fonts and/or images, you MUST have a commercial use license for ALL of the elements you plan to use. If you do not have a commercial use license, you can absolutely be sued by the original creator, which can be very costly. (See this blogger’s story of a very expensive photo)
Long story short, if you want to avoid any chance of being sued in the future, make sure you are either using completely original works/photos, or you have a commercial use license for anything you are using!
What should I look for in a commercial use license?
Different sites will have different usage licenses. Ideally, the license for the products you purchase will cover what you plan to use the item for.
For instance, if you purchase a font, you will want to be able to use that font to create graphics and SVG files. You may even want to use it on a website. Most commercial use licenses will allow you to do that.
What a font license will NOT allow you to do is resell the font as is.
What are some good resources for commercial use fonts and graphics?
I like to use fontbundles.net for fonts and designbundles.net for different graphics. My other favorite site that always has amazing graphics and font bundles is The Hungry Jpeg.
Each of these sites has a great commercial use license that allows you to use the fonts and graphics for just about anything!
